Applying Window functions to transient signals before FFT Answered
To help obtain a cleaner FFT signal, you should make sure the transient signal has reached equilibrium at 0 (i.e. the system has stopped resonating).
Otherwise, you can applying an amplitude window function to the transient signal (time history) and then perform the FFT.
