Unable to replicate the FMC tutorial(2D) 回答済み

Dear Sir/Madam,

I followed the steps shown in the FMC tutorial under Designer however I can't get the result curves as you show online. What I get is just a flat curve located at 0. It looks like there is no reflection received. Do you have any idea? And I have another two questions regarding the simulation.

1) What does the timestep factor mean? How can I use it to define the simulation timestep?

2)Why is the mesh velocity set to 3200 if it's the longitudinal velocity of steel?

    Hi Xiao,

In explicit time domain FEM, the timestep is dictated by the material velocity and size of an element.

The timestep factor only controls how close the timestep is to the CFL Limit (Info Here).

Leave this default to 0.8 for the most stable performance. Increasing this value towards 1 will speed up simulation and increase accuracy but can lead to model instability.

There are also shear waves that can be generated in the simulation so we are meshing for the shear velocity here.

    Best regards,

    Kevin
