    Hi Robin,

     

    It appears you have defaulted the mass and vmax in the prop command but the command reference specifies that there is no default. Check the command reference but I would recommend inputting all params to be safe.

    It is a massless spring. Could I input the "m" as 0.0 ? I could input vmax as the maximum longitudinal velocity of the model.

    Also, I have not used the " line gcon " command. Is this command necessary to have for line elements?

    Yes you should be able to enter 0 mass and the longitudinal velocity of the spring.

    Line gcon is only required if you are using an unstructured grid, I am assuming you are working with structured elements?

    Yes I am using structured mesh.

    After I input the mass as 0.0, I get the error "line element is on a massless node".

    Also I want the k value to be 0 as well for all line elements that I am constructing. When I do this I get the error "Line element stiffness is 0".

    Also, what are the units of k, c and vmax?

    Please let me know what are the units of k and vmax.

    Also please address the 2 errors I get in the top. The input file and necessary support files are provided in the Google drive link in the original post.

  • Hi Robin,

     

    In SI units the spring constant,k, has units of N/m and the viscous constant, c, has units of N.s/m. Vmax is a velocity in m/s.

    The command must need a non-zero value for mass and k. Does the script work for small values input?

  • Yes, if I add some small mass value like m = 0.000001 and k = 0.00001 or just use the visc model where there is no k but give small value of mass then it does seem to work but still gives an error. Please see this post:
