As we've already said, creating a model in Designer is pretty easy: it basically involves working your way down the Model Tree.
We'll start by adding the materials that we'll need. In the Model Tree, click beside Materials to show the Materials Database.
The way this works is simple. On the left is the Global Database, a database of over 100 materials provided by OnScale. On the right is the Project Materials, which lists the materials that have been added to this project.
To add a material from the Global Database to the Project Materials, either double-click it or select it and then click .
You can also add your own materials, edit the properties of existing materials, and import and export materials.
Note: Our global database is provided to you as a starting point. For accurate simulation results, you should ensure that the properties of all materials that you use match the properties provided by the manufacturer.
Adding PZT and Water
For our model we need two materials: PZT and water. We'll also need to edit one of the default properties of the PZT material, to change the poling direction. To do all this, follow these steps:
- In the Global Database, expand Piezoelectric and then double-click pmt3 (description CTS 3203HD) to add it.
-
In the Project Materials, edit pmt3 > Piezolectric > Poling from Z+ to Y+. You'll need to double-click the current value to edit it.
Warning: Don't miss out this step! Doing so will lead to incorrect results.
- Back in the Global Database, expand Fluid and then double-click watr (description Water at 25C) to add it.
- Click Done.
You'll see the two materials are now listed in the Model Tree. If ever you need to edit any properties of a material after you've added it, you can select it in the Model Tree and then edit its properties in the Properties window.
What Next?
Now we've added our materials, the next step is to add a forcing function.
