Simulating a Full 3D Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Filter

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters utilise interdigital transducers on a piezoelectric substrate, where an input transducer converts an electrical signal to an acoustic wave. The propagated mechanical energy is converted back to an electrical signal at the output; the output of the filter is dependent on the frequency response of the device, which OnScale enables engineers to analyse in 3D to determine full device performance.

This video demonstrates the simulation of a single port SAW filter. By simulating the device in full 3D, a range of parasitic effects can be considered to avoid carrying undesirable performance into production.
